While food is necessary for survival and it provides comfort to the body and mind, it can also work against us at times. Heartburn and indigestion are caused primarily by food and they usually occur together; let us find out how we can prevent and cure both.

The Cause Of Heartburn And Indigestion

Heartburn is cause usually by two types of disorders: GERD, which is also known as gastro esophageal reflux disease and ulcers. Heartburn occurs when digestive fluids overflow in the throat irritating its lining in the process. Typical heartburn symptoms are burning sensation in the chest and heart area.

There are many drugs available without prescription to cure heartburn; they can be taken before a meal when you know it causes you heartburn or after when you feel the symptoms. The heartburn drugs neutralize the acid caused by the digestive tract to digest food and thus, ease up the burning sensation you feel however, they also cause indigestion in the process. Therefore people usually suffer from both heartburn and indigestion as they both go hand in hand.

Indigestion otherwise occurs when any types of disorder slows down the digestive process such as, low acidity or low metabolism. The usual indigestion symptoms are belching, bloating, abdominal pain, flatulence, upset stomach and nausea.
